Practical training is an integral and compulsory component of the undergraduate study programme at AREMA. In line with the professionally oriented and applied nature of the programme, practical training is organised as project-based work, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge to real organisational, professional and business environments.

Students complete their practical training through Project Assignment I in the first year and Project Assignment II in the second year of study. Together, the two project assignments account for 20 ECTS credits.

Project work may take the form of case studies, applied research, professional assignments or other project-based activities carried out in companies, public institutions, non-profit organisations and other relevant organisations in Slovenia or, where appropriate and upon agreement, abroad.

AREMA cooperates with a wide network of organisations from both the private and public sectors where students may undertake their practical training and project work. Employed students may, where appropriate, complete their practical training and project assignment within the organisation in which they are employed, provided that the proposed project meets the academic and professional requirements of the study programme.

Mentoring and Coordination

Each project assignment is supported by academic supervision and practical mentoring. Two higher education teachers may be involved as academic supervisors, together with a mentor from the organisation in which the student carries out the project work.

AREMA provides practical mentors with appropriate guidance, written instructions and, where necessary, preparatory training to ensure that the practical component is carried out in accordance with the objectives and learning outcomes of the study programme.
The Practical Training Coordinator oversees the organisation and implementation of practical training and works closely with academic supervisors and mentors from partner organisations. The coordinator acts as the professional and communication link between AREMA, the student and the host organisation, ensuring that practical training and project work are properly planned, implemented and documented.

The mentor within the host organisation provides direct professional guidance to the student during the implementation of the agreed project activities and supports the student in connecting academic knowledge with professional practice.

Forms, Guidelines and Documentation

All forms, guidelines, instructions and other documentation required for practical training and project work are available in the relevant AREMA e-classrooms:

  • Project Assignment I – for first-year students
  • Project Assignment II – for second-year students

Students should use the current forms and instructions available in the respective e-classroom when preparing, carrying out and submitting their project assignment.

Through close cooperation with companies, public institutions and other organisations, AREMA provides students with opportunities to gain relevant professional experience and to connect academic knowledge with real-world challenges – learning through practice and for practice.
